Abstract

This project addresses the inefficiencies and security challenges in traditional university transportation systems, which rely heavily on manual supervision and the decisions of bus drivers. These outdated practices often result in transportation unavailability, student overcrowding, and unauthorized access. The proposed solution uses Intelligent Transport Systems principles to develop an automatic transportation management system. Key technologies employed include RFID for student identification and access control, GPS for real-time bus tracking, and 4G LTE communication for synchronizing data between embedded hardware (T-SIM A7670E) and a centralized backend utilizing SQLite and MySQL databases. A semi-automatic tripod turnstile mechanism is integrated to enforce secure access procedures. The system was successfully implemented and functionally tested in realistic scenarios. Results showed effective management of student access, reliable real-time tracking of buses, and consistent synchronization of data between the local and central databases. The system also provided clear performance metrics, including access control accuracy and tracking latency.
