Abstract

This memo highlighted the phenomenon of child begging from a social perspective, by focusing on the role of the family and social upbringing in this phenomenon. Socialization is considered one of the most important processes that contribute to shaping the child’s personality and behaviors. Thus, any dysfunction or weakness in the family’s educational and social roles may lead to behavioral deviations, including begging. The study addressed the following detailed research question: How can the family’s process of socialization contribute to the emergence of child begging in Algerian society? Key Findings: - Most child beggars come from small families suffering from poverty, illiteracy, and family disintegration. - There is a lack of proper social upbringing, as guidance and supervision within the family are clearly absent, leaving the child without effective educational care. - In some cases, begging is driven by the mother herself, using the child as a means to earn money. - The absence of effective institutional intervention contributes to the continuation of the phenomenon. - Confronting this phenomenon is a collective responsibility that begins with the family and does not end at the level of the state. It requires the combined efforts of all components of society to build a healthy environment that preserves the dignity of the child and prepares them to become an active member in the future.
