Abstract

Multilevel inverters are crucial for converting DC power from renewable sources like solar panels, fuel cells and batteries into AC power for multiple uses in the industry today. And mainly in electric vehicles for its simple control. This conversion requires maintaining key metrics such as AC voltage, current output, phase, frequency, and waveform quality. These inverters integrate multiple low-voltage DC sources to achieve higher voltage outputs using lower-rated power electronic components. By using cascaded inverter modules controlled with PWM techniques, they reduce total harmonic distortion (THD) and produce a waveform that closely resembles a sine wave. A new topology that has been introduced to the market the z-source inverter, which can function as a boost or buck inverter, uses an LC network to manage voltage. This study explores a five-level z-source inverter using multi-carrier sinusoidal pulse width modulation with techniques like SHEPWM, SBCPWM, MBCPWM and Third harmonic injection. It combines the benefits of multilevel and z-source inverters and examines control strategies for voltage regulation under varying conditions. The approach's effectiveness has been validated through MATLAB Simulink simulations
