| dc.description.abstract | The teaching and learning of a foreign language has grown enormously. Precisely, the main interest has been on how to speak and perform the language. Speaking in a foreign language is one of the difficult tasks faced by language learners that should be mastered by them. This difficulty makes students unable to perform the language accurately. However, it is essential in the learning process as it is the way for meaningful and successful communication .Learners should focus on how to improve this skill that requires considerable efforts and practices to reach a good level of speaking. For this purpose, various methods, techniques and strategies had been invented. This paper aims to test the student’s awareness of the most common teaching methods. It seeks to find out how can these teaching methods enhance student’s communicative performance determine and whether this awareness could lead to better achievement. We hypothesize that if the students are more knowledgeable about appropriate methods to enhance their speaking skills, they will score well and have better results. We also hypothesize that if teachers perform their role efficiently through the use of teaching methods and appropriate speaking activities, learners’ communicative performance would be improved. The method used in this study is descriptive. To check the validity of these hypotheses, we will conduct a questionnaire with 21 first year LMD students of English language and 09 teachers of “Oral Expression” module in the department of arts and languages, University of Medea during the academic year 2020-2021. The findings show that the use of different methods contributed to the development of learners’ speaking skill, and to their oral performance. To sum up, this thesis is supported with some recommendations and suggestions for learners to enhance students’ oral performance that will help them to overcome their weaknesses. | fr |
