Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the agricultural constraints that led to the widening of the food gap in agricultural crops in Algeria during the period from 1990 to 2022, using the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model to analyze temporal data. The study revealed the existence of a long-term equilibrium relationship between the variables under study, and the model was accepted statistically. According to the model, the deviation from equilibrium is corrected every year by 88.48%. The study concluded that agricultural land, the amount of rainfall, and agricultural workers negatively affect the size of the gap. Food in agricultural crops, as the rate of increase in these variables increases the production of the agricultural sector and thus reduces the size of the food gap. As for agricultural mechanization, it has a positive impact on the food gap. The study recommends good control over the distribution of agricultural property, developing irrigation mechanisms, and strengthening the labor force and agricultural technology with support Using advanced equipment and reforming agricultural policies, these recommendations aim to achieve food security and reduce the food gap, which enhances the country's economic and social stability.
