Planning and Optimization of 5G-Based Massive MIMO in Mobile Radio Networks

Abstract

This thesis addresses the design and engineering of fifth-generation (5G) mobile networks using Massive MIMO technology. It reviews the evolution of communication networks from the second generation (2G) to 5G, with an analysis of the operating principles of Massive MIMO and a discussion of design tools such as the Atoll software used for wireless coverage prediction. The project includes a practical simulation in Algerian urban areas and relies on Huawei’s iManager MAE platform to evaluate key performance indicators (KPIs) such as coverage, access speed, and handovers between cells. By integrating technologies like smart beamforming and the deployment of small cells, the work aims to enhance the capacity and performance of the network. The study highlights the real-world challenges faced by network engineers and proposes scalable solutions to improve the architecture of next-generation mobile communications.
