The Impact of Cooperative Learning on Reducing Speaking Anxiety in English Language Learning

Abstract

Cooperative learning has been a subject of interest among the researchers due to its positive outcomes on pupils’ performance. The fact notwithstanding, anxiety is a negative factor that prevents pupils from developing their language proficiency. pupils of English language as a foreign language (EFL) facing many difficulties in the lesson to learn English language as foreign language, especially in classes. In this respect, this study aims to explore the impact of cooperative learning to reduce speaking anxiety on learning English language in primary school. To build up this study, . For this purpose, a case study was conducted at Sidi Demed primary schools (Okba Ibno Nafii and Nadjaoui Said) during the academic year 2022-2023. The third year puipls and teachers of primary schools are made the accessible population. The sample was consisted of 56 pupils as well as 10 teachers. Delve deeply, The research depends on two main data tools which are an interview that was directed to ten (10) teachers of English primary school from different places in Medea , and a questionnaire was addressed to fifty six (56) pupils of English language primary school. The data collected were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. As a result, this study shows that foreign language learners have a great amount of anxiety in speaking skill. The results also illustrate that cooperative learning in which the pupils and teachers can rely on to minimize or alleviate foreign language speaking anxiety and help students develop and promote their oral performance.
