Abstract
The controversy over whether English Language courses should incorporate or exclude
students' home language has raged for a long time (Brown, 2000, p195), but the research
findings have yet to be fully convincing. The purpose of this article is to see if using L1 in
English Language lessons hurts or helps with language acquisition. The study will be held at
Dr. Yahia Fares University's English Department, with as a participant. A questionnaire and
an interview will be used to gather information. In the interview section,
students will be chosen at random for participation in the interviews to learn more about their
perspectives on the use of L1 in their English classrooms. To begin, the benefits and
drawbacks of using L1 in English language schools will be analyzed in light of the other
studies. Following that, a questionnaire will be administered to the selected class. We
anticipate that quantitative data analysis will demonstrate that using L1 in English Language
classes has significant benefits. Key Terms : Using L1 in English Language classes,
advantages and disadvantages of using L1,language acquisition
