Abstract

تلخّص هذه المذكرة الموسومة "الزواف ودورهم العسكري في الجيش الفرنسي خلال القرن 19م" دراسة تاريخية تحليلية حول إحدى الفرق العسكرية التي اعتمدت عليها فرنسا في ترسيخ احتلالها للجزائر، تناولت بدايةً الأوضاع العامة في الجزائر قبيل الاحتلال سنة 1830 من زوايا سياسية، عسكرية، واقتصادية، ثم نشأة فرقة الزواف من حيث التجنيد والرتب واللباس والتنظيم الهرمي. في الفصل الثالث، ركّزت الدراسة على الأدوار العسكرية التي لعبها الزواف في خدمة الجيش الفرنسي، سواء داخل الجزائر بقمع المقاومات أو خارجها مثل مشاركتهم في حرب القرم والحرب البروسية، خلُصت الدراسة إلى أن الزواف كانوا أداة فعّالة في المشروع الاستعماري. This thesis, titled “The Zouaves and Their Military Role in the French Army During the 19th Century,” presents a historical study of a military unit that played a major role in reinforcing French colonial control over Algeria. They begins by examining Algeria’s general situation prior to the 1830 occupation—politically, militarily, and economically. then explores the origins of the Zouaves, their recruitment methods, ranks, uniforms, and military hierarchy. The third chapter focuses on the Zouaves’ military functions in service of France, both in suppressing internal resistance and participating in external campaigns like the Crimean War and the Franco-Prussian War. The study concludes that the Zouaves were an effective tool in the French colonial project, while also raising critical questions about identity and loyalty among Algerian recruits.
