Abstract

Our study aimed at measuring the impact of attracting foreign direct investment in improving the position of the Algerian trade balance over the period 1980-2017, We have relied on the analytical descriptive approach and quantification of data using ARDL models, In its analytical aspect, the study found that there was no relationship between FDI flows and an increase in the balance of the trade balance, The results of the assessment of the long-term relationship, as well as the results of the short-term error correction model, also demonstrated the unethical change of FDI, and that oil prices are the only variable that affects the trade balance in a direct relationship. Increasing its price by one unit increases the trade balance by 523.958 units; The study concluded that Algeria's policy of attracting FDI fell short of its expectations. Most inflows are concentrated mainly in the fuel sector, while promising sectors still need this important resource, despite the strengths they possess. The study therefore recommended that more serious action be taken to eliminate all obstacles that continue to follow the investment climate in Algeria. This coincides with the prior planning of the limits on the quantity and quality of such investments, as well as the desired role in attracting them. and complement and enhance national efforts for a temporary period when the national economy is unable to provide for development requirements without them.
