Abstract
This study aimed to diagnose articulation disorders in children with moderate hearing impairment, based on acoustic-phonetic analysis using the Praat software. Three cases were selected involving children aged between 5 and 6 years, all of whom were equipped with hearing aids. They underwent a detailed acoustic assessment through the recording of sounds from a speech inventory specifically designed for this study, which included high-frequency fricative sounds known for their auditory and articulatory difficulty.
The research adopted a descriptive case study approach and utilized several methodological tools, including observation, interviews, and acoustic analysis. The Praat software enabled the extraction of precise acoustic features such as fundamental frequency, intensity, formants, and duration, as well as perturbation indicators like jitter, shimmer, and the harmonic-to-noise ratio (HNR).
The results revealed prominent phonetic transformations affecting both articulation manner and place, particularly in fricative and high-frequency sounds. These findings reflect deficits in auditory discrimination and fine motor control. The Praat tool proved effective in providing objective, early diagnosis of speech disorders.
