Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the nature of the relationship between social intelligence, psychological cohesion, and quality of life among a sample of individuals with chronic diseases. The study sample comprised 100 individuals suffering from chronic diseases such as renal insufficiency, diabetes mellitus, and hypertension. Their ages ranged from 20 to 80 years. To achieve the study's objectives, a descriptive correlational methodology was employed. The Social Intelligence Scale by Ibrahim Al-Maghazi (2005), the Psychological Cohesion Scale by its researcher Yousfi Hadda, and the abbreviated version of the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL) scale by Bushra Ismail Laribi (2008) were used. To answer the study questions and test the hypotheses, the following statistical methods were utilized: mean, standard deviation, Pearson correlation coefficient (Beta was likely referring to regression or a specific interpretation of correlation here, Pearson is standard for this context), and T-test. The study found a statistically significant positive correlation between social intelligence scores and the level of psychological cohesion, indicating that as social intelligence increases, psychological cohesion also increases. It was also found that quality of life scores were low among individuals with chronic diseases. Furthermore, there were no statistically significant differences based on gender in social intelligence, psychological cohesion, and quality of life among individuals with chronic diseases.
