Mohamed Farrah is considered one of the most prominent pioneers of Algerian theatre. He was born on April 21, 1919, in Ksar El Boukhari, Médéa Province، He was raised in a social and cultural environment, where the Zawiya of Sheikh Mohamed El-Mousoum was the foundation of his education. His entry into the world of theatre came when he was appointed by the Movement for the Triumph of Democratic Liberties as head of the Arabic department at the cinema (1949–1950). His theatrical works include Dr. Nabil (1947), in addition to Scapin's Deceits, The Miser, The Doctor in Spite of Himself, and Montserrat. His original plays include Love and Beyond, Siege of Istanbul, From Us to Them, The Miracle of Love, Letters and Complaints in Four Parts, Farewell to Algeria, and See You in Algeria. Farrah was known for his skills in playwriting, adaptation, and translation. He is regarded as one of the most significant literary and theatrical figures in the Arab world. His contributions to theatre were a landmark in the history of modern Arab culture. He excelled in writing original plays and also in translating a number of international plays from various languages. Moreover, he creatively adapted global works, adding his personal touch. One of his most notable adaptations was Montserrat by Emmanuel Roblès, a Franco-Algerian writer. The play revolves around a Spanish officer who is horrified by the atrocities committed by his country’s soldiers against the people of Venezuela. He admires the resistance of these people in their fight for freedom. Farrah adapted and translated the play to express the suffering of the Algerian people under French colonialism. Mohamed Farrah was also active in the Algerian national movement and the liberation revolution. Algerian theatre was a platform for national resistance, and Farrah used it to present performances that addressed the concerns and issues of Algerians. He joined the Parti du Peuple Algérien (PPA) in 1939 and became a permanent member. He also joined the National Liberation Front (FLN) in 1954. In 1955, together with the late Fadhel Ben Salem, he co-wrote the first five editions of Al-Muqawama Al-Jaza’iriya. He passed away in December 2010 at the age of 90
