Abstract
The major emphasis of this thesis is the synthesis, characterization, and use of certain ternary ceramics, especially the MAX and MAB phases, as well as their related two-dimensional MXenes, for Malachite Green adsorption. To achieve this, the MAB and MAX phases were synthesized through the employment of the MS3 method. The influence of a Sn additive and salts was explored in the case of Fe2AlB2 and Cr2AlC. The ensuing powders underwent scrutiny using techniques such as X-ray diffraction XRD, Scanning Electron Microscopy SEM, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). The outcomes demonstrated that both Fe2AlB2 and Cr2AlC could be obtained with Sn Additive and KCl salt with high purity at 1000°C for 1 hour.
The production of MXenes is accomplished by removing the Al element from their MAX phase via a chemical etching procedure. The resultant powders were evaluated using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analyzes.
The last section of the study focuses on the practical use of these materials, which include MAX, MAB and MXenes, in batch adsorption. Adsorption experiments found that they were quite effective at absorbing Malachite Green., the kinetics and adsorption isotherms of Malachite Green agree well with the pseudo-second order and Freundlich models.
