This study investigates two surahs from the holy Quran, translated from Arabic the original language of the Quran into English by Abdullah Yusuf Ali (2005), regarding the Politeness Principles proposed by Geoffrey Leech (1983). This study aims at exploring the politeness maxims used by three characters; God, prophets, and humans in two surahs: Yusuf and El Qasas in question, including the six maxims of politeness; tact maxim, generosity maxim, approbation maxim, modesty maxim, agreement maxims, and finally sympathy maxim. The research apply the qualitative approach to analyze the obtained data that include the verses recited by the characters in the two surahs. After gathering the data, the data classified into six maxims of the politeness principle, and several inferences are made based on the research findings. The results of this paper revealed that all the six maxims are used by the characters in both surahs except for the generosity maxim in surah of El Qasas.fr
